2020-11 MERF Beirut Explosion Diaconal Relief Project Update
Although Beirut’s port explosion August 4 was so big that it has affected hundreds of thousands of people together, yet, it was a personal spiritual experience for each one of them. “I was so close to losing my life but God saved me” This is what we keep hearing over and over again from almost everybody we visit. God is the greatest engineer who can design the perfect plan to accomplish His purposes for each one of us at the same time. This explosion seems a random accident from our perspective, yet from God’s perspective it is an organized event that serves to manifest His will in the lives of the hundreds of thousands individuals who were affected.
Our teams (more than 50 people) have been working since the day of the explosion to clean the mess, repair the houses, and to give support and consolation. This tragic incident opened the door for us to reach more people with the message of life, which is far more important than having a house or even having a country.
Through MERF support and long hours of volunteer help from faithful local churches, we have been able to fix about 630 homes and provide 2000 families with humanitarian aid, furnishings and medications. Beside that we have provided 3000 people with meals and sanitizers. Those people were reached personally by members of our teams. Recently a gift was received to be able to repair all the needy homes on the waiting list for repairs.
They shared with us their pain, and we shared with them the message of hope. Each individual received a copy of the Bible or a booklet of our Reformed catechism (Ask me about Christ). The plan is to follow-up with all these people in the future through sending them a seasonal magazine and inviting them to spiritual events and meetings.
Please keep praying for us.
Thank you for your support!
